Some peoples before and after results have been amazing. CGM is a healthy curly hair regimen that really works! I have been doing the curly method now for 8 years and my hair has thanking me for it.

However the results of following the Curly Girl Method can vary depending on your hair type and how consistently you follow the routine, but here are some common benefits:

1. Defined Curls

The CGM helps define curls and waves by emphasizing the use of products and techniques that enhance curl formation. By avoiding heat styling, silicones, sulfates, and harsh chemicals, your natural curl pattern can thrive and appear more defined.

2. Less Frizz

One of the major benefits of CGM is a reduction in frizz. By using hydrating and nourishing products and focusing on techniques like “plopping” or diffusing, curls become more controlled and less prone to frizz, especially when the hair dries.

3. Healthier Hair

Since the CGM removes damaging ingredients like sulfates and silicones from your routine, your hair can become healthier over time. These ingredients can strip natural oils or weigh down curls, but CGM promotes moisture retention, leading to stronger, shinier, and more resilient hair.

4. Moisture Retention

Curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair because natural oils have a harder time traveling down the twists and turns of the hair shaft. CGM encourages the use of moisturizing products like leave-in conditioners, oils, and creams that help your hair retain hydration.

5. Less Breakage

By avoiding harsh tools like straighteners, curlers, and rough towel drying, CGM can reduce hair breakage. The method also promotes gentle handling, such as using wide-tooth combs or fingers to detangle wet hair, reducing mechanical damage.

6. More Volume

Since curly hair is naturally voluminous, the Curly Girl Method helps maintain that volume by using lightweight products that don’t weigh down the curls. The curls will be more buoyant and can have better natural lift.

7. Improved Texture

With consistent care, curly hair often becomes softer, more bouncy, and overall more manageable. The method nurtures the natural texture, which can make curls more uniform and smooth.

8. Longer-Lasting Curls

CGM can help curls last longer throughout the day by using the right products and techniques. Curls may hold their shape better and remain defined, reducing the need for touch-ups.

9. Personalised Results

Since the Curly Girl Method encourages experimenting with different techniques and products based on your specific curl pattern (wavy, curly, coily), you’re likely to find what works best for you, leading to a customized hair routine that suits your unique texture.

What are the Main Principles of CGM?

The main principles of CGM and set of guidelines of the Curly Girl Method include:

  1. Drop the regular shampoo or no shampoo altogether. No shampoo with sulfates: Sulfates can be harsh on curly hair, stripping it of natural oils and causing dryness and frizzy hair. Instead, people following the CGM use sulfate-free or sulfate-free shampoo or co-wash (conditioner wash) their hair.
  2. No silicone-containing styling products: Silicones in hair products can create buildup and prevent moisture from penetrating the hair shaft. CGM followers use silicone-free products to maintain healthier curls.
  3. No products containing waxes or parabens or anything that can cause a product buildup.
  4. No products containing Harsh Alcohols: Products containing harsh alcohols can dry out culry hair which needs moisture.
  5. Regular conditioning: Moisture is essential for curly hair, so CGM encourages the use of hydrating conditioners and leave-in products to keep hair moisturized and manageable. To deep condition with a hair, mask is advisable too.
  6. Gentle handling: Curly hair can be more delicate and prone to breakage, so the CGM advises handling hair gently and avoiding harsh brushing or combing. Use a wide tooth comb on wet hair.
  7. Diffusing or air drying: To reduce frizz and maintain curl definition, CGM followers often prefer diffusing their hair with a hairdryer on a low heat setting or air drying instead of using a towel to prevent excess frizz.
  8. No heat styling: If possible leave to air dry if not use a hair dryer and a diffuser attachment to dry hair on a low speed and heat. heat can dry out and damage healthy curls. Also try not to use any hot tools or heat tools.
  9. Styling with products suitable for curly hair: CGM recommends using specific products designed for curly hair to enhance and define curls that are free of harsh chemicals.
  10. Have curls cut dry by a curl-by-curl cut

It’s essential to note that the Curly Girl Method is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and results may vary from person to person. It is popular among individuals with curly hair who want to embrace and enhance their natural curl pattern while promoting healthier hair.

  • The Curly Girl Method takes time to show results. Depending on your hair’s condition, you may need to give it a few weeks or months for the full transformation to occur.
  • It requires patience and dedication. The method is quite different from conventional hair care routines and may require some trial and error.
  • Everyone’s hair is different, so not every technique or product will work for everyone. Finding the right routine can take some time.
