If at First you don’t Succeed Try Again.
What a funny few weeks! Owen turned 16 so we had a small party for him. I decided as usual to bake a cake. However my enthusiasm took over and thinking I had it all sussed I decided to bake a cake with cake pops! Well If at First you don’t Succeed Try Again.

It started off well, Harry thought it would be a good idea to you tube it . So I would do my first vlog!
Sadly it wasn’t to be, it was a total car crash from start to finish!
I can bake a cake pretty well, I know all my measurements off by heart and I can add ingredients pretty much willy nilly and always come up trumps. But this was different!
Today’s task was a pop cake . A beautiful cake with bright coloured poured Ganache. Perfect pop cakes in a multitude of colours for a funky 16 cake. Easy right? I had You Tubed and researched the said cake. I knew exactly what I was doing.
Or did I? Cake pops are a Different story!
So you make a cake ,you crumble it up, combine it with buttercream or ganache and ” hey presto” pretty balls of delight. Easy peasy? Yeh right!
The crumbs would not combine, the stick would not stay in , I burnt chocolate and coloured my fingers in an attractive shade of lime green.
Harry said ” well that didn’t work well did it?”
I just ended up with dollops of what looked like snot, It was a bit of a disadvantage that I chose green as my primary colour!
So I salvaged the said pop cake, chucked the remnants of the green bogies in to the bin and decided that a paint splatter cake might be the route forward.
It didn’t turn out to bad an effort much better than I thought. However I’m yet to master the art of colouring White chocolate ganache, but hey let’s not lose any sleep.
Owen didn’t seem to notice and the cake went down well heated up with some cream.
The rest of the week has been pretty ok, It was great to catch up with family for Owens birthday albeit with a rather strange cake. Its always lovely to see my niece Eden and its lovely having a little girl in the house. ( at least she appreciated the chocolate cake)
We were privileged to meet with friends from America on their honeymoon in London. We took them on a tour and watched Harry in Charlie and the Chocolate factory.
I then had a magic evening with some blogging friends in Birmingham for the HomesSenses christmas party. It was a really inspiring evening.
Again London visits were the norm, sampling some great little restaurants and again more lovely people were subjected to my wine influenced runaway chat.
So this weeks word of the week is Try! and If at First you don’t Succeed Try Again!
That’s a good motto! The cake looks fab, well salvaged. Happy belated birthday to Owen! Thanks for sharing with #WotW
Thank you x
The cake doesn’t look bad, to the untrained eye, although of course not Pop shaped!! Glad it was salvaged and most things take lovely with a little bit of cream!!
Happy belated birthday
