Hygge what is it? I am attempting to find out, Welcome to The Hygge Experiment .
So you’ve seen the word Hygge everywhere? In department stores displaying wooden homewares, in clothes shops with cosy socks and scarfs and even in pubs serving comfort food by a warm fire. There are books on the subject in book shops and every one seems to be doing it.
The word Hygge originates from from the Norwegian word meaning ‘wellbieng’. When translated is means Happy!
So can hygge really make you happy and exactly what is it? I am going to look in to every aspect of hygge and attempt to find out.
I figured that to try and do a new years resolution was a little bit pointless. We do it every year we try to achieve our goals year after year. The danish however enjoy their way of life they seem to live life to the full naturally. So maybe by changing the way we live we can experience the very best that life has to offer. So this year after many failed attempts at wellbeing previously, Im hoping to embrace a new me. A confident me, a calmer me, a more relaxed and organised me and hopefully everything else will follow suit.
Hygge ( pronounced Hue-gah ) seems pretty hard to explain some say it’s a feeling of well being, a cosy fire and good friends. Some say its creating a loving family environment. It is about being warm, creating mood lighting or sharing a hot chocolate with a loved one.
Some say it is creating a feeling of intimacy, or enjoying the simple moments in life we often take for granted.
Are we trying trying too hard in our lives to find happiness and is it actually right under our noses?
I spend far too much time ruminating in my life, worrying and over thinking. Can Hygge really help with your mental health as well?
I’ll be exploring every avenue of the Danish hygge experience to find out the real secret of happiness. I will look at mood lighting, I shall explore Danish baking and pastries and I will even take a look at Hygge fashion style.
Is it true that the best things in life really are free? Can we all be happy with a packet of tea lights and and some basic cooking ingredients?
I hope you can join me on The Hygge Experiment, something’s may not be exactly as planned we will see!
Let’s see if we can live in exactly the Hygge way.

I think that’s exactly the reason why hygge has taken off in the way it has – it seems to be about a simpler way of life, of taking pleasure in the small things, about looking inwards to your family and home life and appreciating it all. Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
I have no idea if it will work , thanks for hosting x
I’ve seen lots of people talking about Hygge, but I haven’t looked into it myself. I think it sounds like something that I would like and I really should take a closer look. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove x

I have eve heard of this but I am interested to see how it works out for you! #sharingtheblogginglove
thank you x
I have heard of Hygge but must admit I had no idea what it actually means. It’s funny how one minute you have never heard of a word, and the next it appears to be everywhere. Bring on the hygge if it means a calmer, less stressful life for everybody x
