Where can I learn to sew online at home? As a beginner you can watch countless Youtube tutorials but you may need a little extra helping hand. When you are stuck at home and you have your sewing machine how do you learn the basics? You can learn to sew online as a beginner in your own home with online sewing tutorials, sewing classes and sewing course’s all over the internet.

Here I have rounded up some of the best online sewing tutorials to help you to learn to sew home. Some sewing courses are free, some are on a monthly basis and some are one off classes. You can learn to sew clothes online such as a dress, shorts or even a pair of jeans. You can also learn to sew projects for the home such as cushion covers, toiletry bags or table mats. Tilly and the Buttons are one of my favourite pattern company’s. Well known for their easy user friendly patterns and expert advice. They have a whole host of classes to purchase to help with sewing some of their garments. They also have lots of tutorials online and on Youtube. Tilly and the Buttons are the perfect choice for classic easy dressmaking.

Sew Over It help you learn to sew online

Sew Over It are another on trend pattern company with many designs to choose from. They offer an online sewing course in the form of “Stitch School” that you can subscribe to monthly. In this subscription you will have access to video tutorials and Sew Over It patterns to do at your own leisure. They also have online “sew a long’s” on youtube every week for you to join the conversation and get sewing . This is a personal favourite of mine and I’m signed up! Watch this space.

Closet case

Closet Case are an online pattern company. They have a range of online sewing pattern tutorials to help you to learn to sew online. You can even learn to sew your own jeans at home with the Closet case Ginger Jeans tutorial.. Sewing course prices vary but you can also sign up to their emails to get free access to their resource library and a free PDF pattern.

By Hand London online tutorials

By Hand London are a trendy modern pattern company that offer lots of online tutorials and ‘sew a longs’ to help you sew beautiful garments. There are free small project tutorials as well for you to start your sewing at home journey.

Sew Confident online classes

Sew Confident do their own online sewing classes to teach you how to sew a range of items including dresses, hoodies and jumpsuits. The classes are all from popular pattern companies and on trend. Classes are online live and taught via Zoom. Classes cost around £25.

Seam Work classes

Seam work have a whole range of beginners sewing projects and courses to teach you how to sew. This course is a monthly membership starting at just $7 a month. There is handy community to join so you can ask questions and get all the help you need.

They also have some free online tutorials to help with smaller projects.

Beautiful Things HQ sewing classes

Beautiful things craft headquarters run beginner classes to help you to learn to sew online. These easy sessions are served via video and are easy to get to grips with.
