Make sure that you are old enough to rent a car and have the right license. The UAE driving license age is 21; however, some companies may set drivers’ age at 23 or 25 years of age, according to the vehicle. If you are a UAE resident, car hiring is easy. You just need a valid UAE driving license. They may require additional documents such as UAE ID or residence permit in certain situations. Tourists and visitors in this area require an international driver’s license, passport and visa with an entry stamp.

The UAE does recognize different driving licenses from other countries, for example, Australia, the UK, the US, and so on. You also must abide by traffic laws in the UAE. Speed limits are strictly enforced. The speed limit is 120 km/h in most streets and 140 km/h in Abu Dhabi. Inside the cities, it is 40-60 km/h as usual. All keep in these levels and traffic standards so as not to incur any fine or penalty.

Additional Services and Important Policies

Rental companies in the UAE offer additional services to make your experience better. For example, if you are traveling with a child you can rent a car seat for around $30. If you need more mileage you can buy an extra 500 km for about $120 – $150. Some companies even offer car delivery outside Dubai for an additional fee which is useful if you are staying in other Emirates.

You should also be aware of the Salik toll system in Dubai. Every time you pass through a toll gate you will be charged AED 5.25. But you don’t need to pay right away. At the end of your rental, the total toll charges will be added to your final bill which you need to settle within three days.
