Best Curly Girl Method Products

When you first start out on the curly girl method it can be a bit daunting. Knowing the right curly girl method products to use can be hard as there are so many choices on the market with new brands popping up all of the time.

In the last 6 years I have been using the curly girl method I have tried and tested many different products, from UK products to Products direct from the USA. Some are great for heavier more coily hair and some are great for lighter hair. 

Being a hairdresser as my trade I have got to know which products are better for which. My hair is medium thickness and around a 2c 3a curl but I have lots of it! My hair needs moisture but nothing too heavy or it feels weighed down.

Best Curly Girl Method Products in the UK and Online

In this list of curly girl method products and brands I will list what products are better for finer wavier hair against products designed for course thicker hair. It is all based on trial and error and what may work for you may not work for others. These are my favourite tried and tested Brands for curly hair.

These are the best brands for curly girl products with the top best selling products that each brand themselves loves.

If you are particular about your ingredients do a quick check with the manufacturer before you purchase as ingredients do change from time to time.

Cantu Hair Care

First up is my favourite brand Cantu Hair Care. Cantu is a line of hair care products that are designed specifically for people with natural hair. The company was founded in 2003 and is based in the United States. Cantu Hair Care products are made with natural ingredients and are formulated to provide moisture and nourishment to curly, coily, and kinky hair types.

Some of the products in the Cantu Hair Care line include shampoos, conditioners, leave-in conditioners, styling products, and treatments. Cantu Hair Care is popular among people with natural hair because the products are affordable, effective, and readily available in many stores. They often contain Shea Butter which is one of my favourite ingredients for thicker curly and course hair.

You can find Cantu in local pharmacies, major supermarkets and online.

Kitsch

My new found love for my curly hair is the Kitsch Shampoo and conditioner bars. Kitsch was founded by Wisconsin native Cassandra Thurswell at just 25. They have a comprehensive range of beauty products now available in over 20,000 retail locations worldwide. One of their top selling products is the Rice protein shampoo and conditioner and I can safely say it is amazing and now of my favourites.

The Rice Protein shampoo has so far achieved over 12 thousand 5 star reviews. The Shampoo and conditioner is formulated with rice water to help repair damaged hair follicles & prevent split ends and is free of parabens, phthalates, silicones, sulfates, & artificial fragrance.

Not only that it also Reduces single-use plastic by being a shampoo bar.

It makes my hair free really clean and it smells amazing. The conditioner simply glides on and makes my hair feel so smooth. Both these bars are also curly girl friendly. Perfect for all hair types and not heavy!

Shea moisture 

Shea Moisture Hair Is another of my all time favorites. It is readily available in most major supermarkets and pharmacies and is a general good all rounder.

The company was founded in 1991 by two Liberian immigrants and is based in the United States. Shea Moisture Hair Care products are formulated for all hair types, but are particularly popular among people with curly, coily, and kinky hair.

The brand is known for using ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, and argan oil to provide moisture and nourishment to hair. Some of the products in the Shea Moisture Hair Care line include shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, styling products, and treatments.

My favourites are some of the shampoos as well as the strengthen & restore treatment masque. Great for getting curls in order and better for thicker and more coily type hair.

Noughty 

Noughty haircare have a range of hair products devoted to curly and wavy hair. This is a dream for all curly girls having products specifically aimed at their hair type. They are perfect curly girl method products and are easily available in the UK. I tested out the Wave Hello shampoo and conditioner which are perfect daily use products and their Noughty Curl defining taming cream which is a curl saver. 

They are definitely lighter products suitable for finer hair and are a go to product for fresh curl results. They also have a lot of products in their brand for curly hair and are available in store mainly in the UK.

Not your mothers 

Not Your Mother’s Hair Care is a popular line of hair care products that was founded in 2010 in the United States. The brand is known for its playful and cheeky product names, as well as its affordable prices. Not Your Mother’s Hair Care products are designed to meet a wide range of hair care needs, from volumizing and smoothing to repairing and protecting.

The brand offers a newer range Curl Talk products consisting of variety of products including shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, styling products, and treatments. Not Your Mother’s Hair Care products are widely available in drugstores, supermarkets mainly in the USA and online. I purchase mine when I go on holiday and occasionally on Amazon in the UK.

All of the products in the Not your Mothers Curl Talk work perfectly together. Perfect for fine and thicker hair and wavy hair.

Kinky curly 

Kinky Curly is a hair care brand that specializes in products for curly and kinky hair textures. The company was founded in 2003 by Shelley Davis, who wanted to create hair care products that would work well on her own natural hair. Kinky Curly products are made with natural ingredients and are designed to provide moisture, definition, and shine to curly hair.

Some of the products in the Kinky Curly line include shampoos, conditioners, leave-in conditioners, styling products, and treatments. The most popular products in the line are the;

Kinky Curly products are free from sulfates, parabens, and other harsh chemicals, and are designed to be gentle on hair and scalp. The brand is widely available in stores and online. It harder to purchase in the UK but you can still find it online. These are great for all curl types from coily to wavy.

Jessie curls

Miss Jessie’s is a hair care brand that specializes in products for curly and textured hair. The brand was founded by sisters Titi and Miko Branch in 2004, named after their grandmother, Miss Jessie Mae Branch, who was known for her expert hair styling skills.

Miss Jessie’s offers a range of products for different hair types, including cleansers, conditioners, styling products, and treatments. Their products are designed to provide moisture, definition, and control to curly and coily hair. Some of their popular products include the Curly Pudding, a styling cream for defining curls, and the Pillow Soft Curls, a lightweight styling lotion for creating soft and bouncy curls.

My favourite is the Pillow Soft Curls gel, which is great for finer hair and does not weigh it down.

Only curls 

Only Curls natural hair product for curly hair is a brand for anyone with curly or wavy hair and is based in London in UK. The Only curls London are a vegan hair brand that is light moisturising and hydrating and is curly girl method approved. The Only Curls hair care brand keeps selling out of their products and there is reason why.

These cgm approved products are everything you need to turn your frizz into gorgeous curls. All of the products smell delicious with a light fresh citrus and coconut fragrance. The coconut is very subtle in-fact at first I couldn’t quite put my finger on what notes were coming through but it smells divine. These products are very light and work well when all used together.

Naturtint 

Naturtint Curly hair range is a newer curly girl hair care system for curly hair. Using product especially made for curly hair or wavy hair can help adding moisture. And help manage frizzy or out of control curls. If you do the curly girl method or have natural curls then you will familiar with searching out good products to help you achieve beautiful curls.

The new Curly hair products from Naturtint are these such products and are said to use revolutionary technology. This technology is based on the synergistic action of amaranth seed extract and hydrolysed quinoa. It is used to create a proactive treatment that results in more defined, softer curls that are easier to manage.The products are suitable for those wishing to do the curly girl method but always double check ingredients and they can change.

I’ve tried the whole range of the Naturtint curly girl approved products and I was pleasantly surprised. My hair felt bouncy and soft and not weighed down so great for all hair types including wavy.

The Curl company

The Curl company pride themselves in being experts in curls & waves. Creightons Professional have developed Their range of products and are specifically designed for Curls, Waves and Coils and they are based in London.

Some products which are great for curls still contain some lovely ingredients they would not be any good for someone following the curly girl method and not suitable for the Curly girl method however The Curl Company are looking to make more of their products CGM friendly in the near future. Lightweight may work better for lighter curls.

Giovanni

Giovanni offer a huge range of curly girl approved conditioners and are also Vegan. You will find a few favourites loved by the curly girl community. You can often find Giovanni products in TK maxi including large 1 litre pump bottles.

Giovanni styling products that are vegan And have such a wide range of products that are available world wide. These are always in my cupboard! They work for a range of curl types from wavy to coily. Great for lighter curls with a less products feel.
