10 things I love about cruising

An adventure with Royal Caribbean

We are heading off on another Royal Caribbean Mediterranean cruise this year and we cannot wait. We have done many cruise’s over the years and loved each and every one. I thought I would take a look back at exactly what we love about cruising with the family and give you a little insight into what goes on onboard. We took our first cruise way back in 2007 when our boys were just 3 and 7, We were unsure of what to expect but loved it from the word go. So here are the 10 things I love about cruising.

1- The food is amazing and so varied

The choice of food is huge and so varied. From a sit down meal in the evening to a buffet lunch or dinner. There are always a choice of restaurants and you can pretty much eat all day. There are different choices for Breakfast, lunch and dinner so you can really make it as formal or informal as you like. Windjammers the large buffet restaurant caters for every cuisine you can imagine and is a very relaxed environment.

In the dining rooms you can opt for a sit down breakfast or lunch as well. The waiters are so helpful and accommodating there is no need to worry about small children or fussy eaters.

There are a range of other restaurants such as pizza, American food in Johnny Rockets and on some boats there is even a Jamie’s Italian so you really are spoilt for choice. Royal Caribbean offer different drink packages so you can really cater to your families individual needs too.

2- There is so much to do on board

Where do I start? With shows and quiz’s and even a cinema you will not be stuck without something to do.

In fact some days a day on the boat is needed to catch up! Each boat differs but you can expect sports such as crazy golf, rock climbing and surfing. Activities onboard include Wine tasting, music quiz’s and dance classes. You could even try ice skating the comedy club or a flutter in the casino! Wind down in the spa or scoot down a slide, go to the gym, shop or simply soak up the sun.

Most cruise boats are huge complete floating playgrounds with so much to do you may not fit it all in!

3- The culture

What could be more exciting than visiting a different country every day? Have your photo in front of Pisa or explore the galleries of Marseille.

The world of art, architecture and scenery really is your oyster.

4- You are never far from a beach

Who does not love a beach? From the stunning white sands of the Caribbean or a snorkel off of the coast of a Greek island. The kids and beach lovers will not miss out with a choice of beaches all over the world.

5- You can dress up

I love a night out and for us the formal nights are so much fun! You do not have to wear a bow tie or a full length gown it is your holiday, but is really is a joy to feel special on a night out.

My boys love it too, this year Harry wanted a pink suit! I can not wait to see this dude on the promenade. Obviously children do not have to wear anything of the sort but we always take advantage of it.

6- You will see the world at its best

There is a surprise around every corner, from diving the Great Barrier Reef or watching whales off of the coast of Iceland.

I really have a bucket list as long as the great China wall when it comes to seeing the natural and man-made extraordinary sights of the world. You never know what you are going to find and the best way to explore is by boat. I could go on for ever about the things I love about cruising it really is special.

7- You do not even need to leave the boat to have a swim

The pool is always a huge hit with the boys and cruise pools are just as good. With tiered seating you can always catch the rays and have a good view of where your children are. Add to that Waterslides, poolside entertertainment and ice-cream on tap and you are good to go.

8- The Kids love it too

Before cruising I was worried the children would not enjoy it I need not of been. The kids have the best time ever from playing in the pool, onboard activities and the kids club. The kids club caters for all ages from 6 months to 17 years! Hang out areas for teens, parades and playgroups for toddlers.

My two loved it, we did not expect them to enjoy it so much but the staff are young and vibrant and the activities are clearly more exciting than watching mum and dad have a glass of wine.

It really is not just a place to drop the kids off it really is somewhere they want to be.

Royal carribean also have a Dreamworks entertainment onboard. Kids can have fun and photos with  all of their favourite characters during their trip.

9-  You are never far from a sunset or sunrise.

With a constant horizon ahead of you or behind, you will witness some fantastic sunsets and sunrises. Pure magic at sea with the ones you love!

10- The service is amazing

No matter where you are on the ship the service is always 1st class. The ship is kept immaculately clean and the staff take great care in everything they do. From your tidy cabin with cute towel animal to spotless bathrooms and public areas onboard. Not to mention the great entertainment staff who are always keeping a smile on your face.

Cruising has to be one of our favourite family holidays that really has something for everyone.
