Visit Maccagno along the coast of Lake Maggiore Italy
I have spent a fair amount of time in Italy and not had the opportunity to visit the Italian lakes. It had always been on my bucket list since I had seen some amazing photos of the region. So when I got the chance to Visit Maccagno in Lake Maggiore, Italy I was thrilled.

Italy is beautiful and the lake Maggiore really does live up to their mark with being one of the most stunning regions. It actually brought tears to my eyes standing on top of the mountain overlooking Maccagno it was so beautiful.
Lake Maggiore sits on the border of Switzerland and sweeps in to Italy. The landscape is pretty much what you would expect of large fir trees and snow capped mountains as far as the eye can see.

A picture tour of Maccagno in Lake Maggiore
Maccagno’s position on the bank of the river is remarkable if you stand on the shore of Maccagno you can see across the shore to the beautiful town of Cannobio and further down the down in to Switzerland and the town of Brissano. This small quaint town is ideal for touring the area and a great base with plenty to do.
Maccagno is an ancient town on Lake maggiore divided by upper and lower Boroughs, narrow winding streets and amazing views of the lake.
Where to stay in Maccagno
Golfo Gabella resort sits on the edge of the lake in the town of Maccagno. These self catering apartments are a great base for a stay in Maccagno and even have thier own boat moorings. Restaurants and pizza making at Golfo Gabella apartments.
There is a handy restaurant calle Acquadulza should you wish to relax on your stay and not cook. You can also choose not have your breakfast here as part of your stay with a range of hams, cheeses and pastries galore. They have the most amazing pizzas and you could even organise pizza making lessons for you and your family.
Where is the parking in Golfo Gabello? can I charge my Tesla in lake Maggiore?
All of the parking at Golfo Gabello is directly under your apartment. You will take a lift up to your apartment block from the parking area. You can also charge your Tesla at Lake maggiore at the Golfo Gabello apartments free of charge.
Can I hire bikes Golfo Gabello Lake Maggiore?
Yes Golfo Gabello offer many activities and bike hire is free just ask at reception.

Is there a train station in Maccagno?
There is a train station just a 10 minute walk from the apartments.
Where is the supermarket when I visit Maccagno?
There are few we’ll stocked supermarkets within walking distance of about 5 minutes form the Golfo Gabello apartments.
Where do the ferries take me in Maccagno?
You can get around lake Maggiore easily by ferry and it will take you to some of the most beautiful places right from the port of Maccagno. Check the ferry times for trips from Locarno as far as Arona with stops at Luino for the Market and Cannibio.
Are there hiking routes in Maccagno?
There are plenty of hiking routes around Macagno you can get a map form the local tourist centre.

Places to visit from Maccagno on Lake maggiore
The Borromean Islands
If you are in Lake Maggiore it is definitely worth visiting the Borromean Islands. Consisting of three small islands which boast lush gardens, palaces and a small town. You can access these islands by means of a ferry boat service which can be hopped on from the shores of Verbania or Stresa. There are also wonderful botanical gardens to explore and a palace offering stunning lake views.
Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso (Hermitage of St Catherine) and Laveno
We visited the Santa caterina Monastery in Leggiuno on our visit and it is stunning. You can get to the monastery by car or by ferry from the Borromean Islands so it would be perfect to combine the two.
This stunning monastery is nestled in the cliff edge above Lake Maggiore in Italy and was founded in the 13th Century. A shipwrecked merchant took refuge in a cave in the cliff face. After this saved his life Alberto Besozzi de Arolo was devoted to Santa Caterina and built the first church here. Over the years the chapels have been added on making it the beauty it is today. Cannobio and Cannero Riviera
Cannobio is a stunning harbour town and just across the shore from Maccagno. Unfortunately I was unable to visit Cannobio on my stay but you can check out Sarahs amazing photo review here. It is a 10 minute walk to the ferry from Maccagno and a short hop across the water.
Luino market the largest market in Europe.
Luino Market takes place every wednesday and is the largest market in Europe. It is huge with cheese, vegetable, craft , clothes and even flower stalls. You can get to Luino easy from Maccagno train station.
What is there for children to do in Lake Maggiore and activities for families in Lake Maggiore?
There are plenty of activities for children at lake Maggiore including many beaches dotted all along the shore.
