So here we are on Le Tour de France stage 2 , Next stop for us is Percy which is a small village in Normandy right where our holiday home is situated. Today’s tour starts in Saint-lo travelling through Normandy and finally finishes in Cherbourg.
We couldn’t tempt the kids out today as unfortunately it was raining but we are going to catch stage 3 tomorrow in Villideau le poeles, So I’m sure as its sunnier they will want to join us.
Again today we used the le tour website and app so we could find out exactly what time to get in to town and avoid hanging around in the rain. It gives you the schedule, what part of the course they are on and when they are expected to arrive followed by the standings of all the cyclists in the lead.
The locals had been decorating there homes and we saw gardens adorned with bicycles, flags and balloons. The local fete committee had set up marquees in the square for saucisson baguettes, kir, beer and Nutella crepes! So we were in our element! I soon forgot about the drizzle and started worrying more about the amount of food I had managed to consume!
We grabbed some drinks in a local Bar tabac whilst waiting for the cyclists to come through 4 kir en vin blancs and coffee for €5.50! bargain.
We caught site of the polka dot jersey adorned by Paul Voss who was the best climber yesterday at Avranches , He was ahead in the tete de la course a good 4 minutes in front of the peloton, which came through with Mark Cavendish in his Yellow Jersey.
Then before you knew it it was all over!
The gendarmerie were great and and whilst controlling the crowd moved out of the way for photos, even asking me after if I had got some good shots! like I said yesterday they whip through so quick you don’t really know what you are taking photos of!
I could get used to following the le tour de france would be great to catch a start and finish but for now its just convenient to watch where it is close. So after enjoying Le Tour de France stage 2 we are now Looking forward to stage 3.
If you want to visit Percy and would like to eat out you must visit this great little restaurant De la Gare where we went last night.
