Cast of Bob Marley Get up Stand Up!

This amazing show has a star studded cast with talented star Arinzé Kene playing the lead role of Bob Marley. He was amazing from the start and was honoured to play the part of Bob Marley. It was great to see how Kene Dons the dreadlocked wig and the Jamaican charm. He has even taken on some of Marley’s mannerisms where he studied the part so well. Arinzé Kene Is joined by Gabrielle Brooks who plays Bobs wife Rita Marley and some of the most talented cast! Not to mention some of the finest reggae musicians and four young actors who rotate the role of young Bob.

What is Get up Stand Up the Bob Marley musical about?

The set is vibrant and you actually feel like you are there watching a real Bob Marley concert with reggae vibes. But this is not just a Bob Marley tribute concert it is the musical of his life! It takes you through the entirety Bob Marleys life. The story takes us from a small boy through his early career in with the Whalers to his death from cancer at the peak of his fame. At the time in Jamaica there was a lot of political tical turmoil. You see how Bob becomes a leader and a speaker for the people.

There were parts of the show that made me stop and think and even cry particularly when they sung ‘Could you be loved’. It showcased his relationships with his parents and then his relationship with his wife. I never thought I would cry at this show but it definitely showed me the One love I need to hear!

We’re Jammin is particularly poignant and powerful part of the show! It showed where he actually went onstage in a dangerous position after previously being shot at. It also let us see how brave he was to actually get his message out to the people even though he was in danger himself.

Thoughts on Get up Stand up the musical

Growing up as a teenager Bob Marley was the music to listen too, although Albeit I was a lot later than some. I wasn’t prepared to be blown away by what I thought was essentially going to be a concert or a tribute act. I was so wrong! This was the ultimate story of Bob Marley that has been brought to life on the stage as a musical! It is about time it has come to the stage.

Overall it was a great show and I am so glad I have seen it. We could not wait to stand up and join in at the end for a dance! At one point it felt just like what I would think a Bob Marley concert would be like. You will be inticed by the mix of storyline with a musical theatre feel as if you are in a concert which is very cleverly done! My biggest congratulations go out to the producers and the whole cast. I hope it lasts a long time on the stage as it really deserves be there!
