Find a new Hobby at Sewing Classes In Essex and learn a new skill all while meeting new friends

So recently I started a few sewing classes in Essex at Beautiful Things. I could not wait to book a craft class and learn some new skills. I am not a complete novice when it comes to sewing. I have done a small quilt and I have winged a few children’s book day costumes but not anything complicated or even correct. In fact I have sewn plenty of scrapbooking pages whilst doing paper craft but I guess that doesn’t count.

Beautiful things is run by Claire Mackiness who clearly loves what she does. Situated in a gorgeous barn in Brentwood in Essex it is the perfect retreat. Beautiful Things Offers classes in crochet, crafts and sewing in a beautiful cabin in Brentwood.

I have always wanted to make my own dresses and be able to alter my own clothes so my aim is high! I have now already completed 3 courses! Have a new sewing machine on order and another class booked! I am one step closer to making my dream dress.

One day intensive sewing course at Beautiful Things

Beautiful things do a 3 week sewing course which you can also choose to take in one day. I could not get all three dates in my diary so I opted for the one day intensive course. All three classes in one full day perfect for those with not enough hours in a day.

On this course you will learn how to use a sewing machine and create 3 separate projects. Claire at beautiful things teaches you to cut basic patterns and measure your work. You learn to insert a zip, do basic quilting and make a beautiful bag!

This Craft class is set to a maximum of 6 pupils at a time ensuring you receive tailored tuition and support. All of your materials your sewing machine and equipment are provided all you need to do is bring your lunch. We made a matching quilted storage basket and a matching zip cushion using our new found skills.

We also made a trendy tote bag to carry it all home in. I love it sew much it even matches the kitchen!

I found it easy to sew not quite so easy to work out which way to sew in order to turn items out the right way. I am hoping that will come with time!

After a good old natter with Claire and my friend and many cups of coffee later I had completed 3 projects in one day! All projects I want to make again. Christmas presents here we come!

Short morning sewing classes in Essex

I was ready to book another Sewing Craft class ! There is a wide selection of classes on offer at Beautiful Things HQ each one will teach you a new sewing skill.

I chose to do another cushion making course. A short morning making a envelope cushion and a zip cushion. After sourcing my fabric at the Log cabin in Billericay I had two pieces of fabric ready to make some classy cushions for the home.

This shorter sewing craft class is great for just a few hours and perfect if you need to do the school run. By 12.30 pm I had knocked up two cushions learnt to tab a zip and drunk a pint of tea!

Make a Drawstring lay flat make up bag.

Being as I had caught the sewing bug I went back for more and my next project was the drawstring layflat makeup bag.

This hand sewn make up bag can be made from ripstop materiel so it can be wiped clean or cotton to be washed. I chose the easier option but the brightest fabric I could find.

Beautiful things not only does sewing classes they do other crafts too such as crochet. There really is something for everyone.
