Tom gates book cake and Harry’s birthday.

I thought I’d make something a little different for Harry’s birthday ,A Tom gates book cake and Harry’s birthday.

Harry is in to his books at the moment and I thought of diary of a wimpy kid and then came upon the idea of tom gates.  I am no cake queen and this will be only the second cake I’ve ever iced but it’s a challenge and I promised Harry .
So I’ll let you know a bit about the trials and errors of an amateur cake maker.

First things first make the cake, I have a 10inch tin which I thought I would use and make two cakes , sand which them together and then trim them.
So to do one half of a sand which in a 10 inch square Tin I used
4 eggs
250gr self raising flour
250gr caster sugar
250gr butter
1 tsp baking bowser
1 tsp vanilla esscence
50 grams cocoa
Few splashes of milk to get a nice consistency.

I made two half filled them with chocolate butter cream and trimmed them down once they were cooled off in the fridge.

I then made a chocolate ganache which I heated using the microwave, and coated the cake . After refrigerating the cake I used a hot spatula too smooth it out before icing.
I used rainbow dust icing pens from hobby craft. They are much better to use on cold icing so the cake kept having trips back into the fridge.
Had one very pleased little boy when it was finished and it tasted great!
