Where to stay in Volterra Tuscany

Nestled high in the hillside of Volterra Italy is the stunning villa Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne. Volterra is a walled town In the southwest of Florence, in Italy. We stayed in this beautiful countryside home which was the is the perfect base to explore Tuscany. It is also the perfect venue for a large occasion or Wedding. I had an amazing Tuscan trip with a fabulous group of travel bloggers, where we found a hidden gem courtesy of bookings for you.

Stay in the Hills in Tuscany

Just imagine sitting outside with friends surrounded by the rolling hills of Tuscany. Drinking wine from surrounding vineyards eating organic pizza cooked in a huge stone oven at  Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne

The beauty is the amazing house the surroundings and the outstanding hospitality.

Our hosts for the weekend Vera, Dario, Fabiola and Giancarlo spoilt us with the best Tuscan hospitality showing us exactly how the Tuscan people live.

A real feel authentic 100 year old Tuscan home with just enough of the modern necessities you actually need. Finished entirely and furnished with large pieces of furniture that have been in the family for years.
There is room for 22 people to stay in 9 rooms all finished to a high standard and each one unique.

The Giovannini family Recently renovated the villa in 2014 with pure charm. It is cosy and warm in the winter with log burning fires and bright and airy in the summer. With modern Bathrooms and delightful bedding with cute shuttered windows each room is perfect. The living areas are light and comfortable with personal touches in every corner. In the lounge an old sewing machine sits in the corner alongside a vintage radio just adding that extra piece of charm.

Mysterious Volterra

Villa Le Capanne is just outside the medieval town of Volterra which is well known for its mysterious links to Twilights vampires.
Volterra is one of the most amazing towns I have ever visited with its cobbled streets, quaint markets and alabaster workshops.

The Giovannini family also own the oldest pastry shop in Volterra the Dolceria del Corso, no wonder their cooking is so fabulous!

The whole of the surrounding Tuscan area is steeped in history with larger cities such as Florence just a drive away. You can also venture a little further on your days here and visit Pisa and Seina. Tuscany has so much to offer from the colourful cathedral of Seina to the stunning Michelangelo’s David in the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence.

Tuscan Hospitality

On our first evening we arrived to a champagne reception followed by a Tuscan meal cooked by the very talented Fabiola. We had four courses served with wine in the most amazing lit setting. To simply leave your room and join fellow guests was so relaxing. As the evening wore on we caught glimpses of the stars which are so bright due to no lights nearby.

Over the weekend we tried out all the best the Giovannini family has to offer. One night we had a traditional Tuscan momma meal which is made to be for sharing. Starting with a Caprese salad followed by Pappa al Pomodoro a traditional tomato soup which uses up left over bread.
Wild boar hunted from the land around the Villa and a selection of wines from Vermentino to Montepulciano all sourced locally.
Dessert, Panpepato which they sell to a one star restaurant in Paris, also Penati al baretto which won a Milan expo award from the highest critic.

The pizza party was fantastic all cooked in the huge stone pizza oven outside. A variety of authentic cooked pizzas were served as well as pizza dessert!

Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne tends to your every need should you wish to stay with friends and self cater yourselves that is not a problem. If you wish for the Tuscan Mamma to cook you will be throughly spoiled.

Breakfast or brunch is served with fresh homemade pastries, cold meats cheese and a variety of beverages.

All of the food served is sourced locally in Volterra approximately no further than 20 mins away.

Perfect Party House

Whether you choose to be cooked for by Giovannini Enterprises or want to do it yourself you will not be disappointed.

To stay at the Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne and choose the food package also really makes it special. A group of 13 people worked out to around €350 per person for three nights with accommodation. I am already considering our next big family gathering there it would simply be amazing.
The Giovannini family are also the perfect party planners and everything for your event can be catered for. From flowers, music and lights to extra accommodation for your guests. Whatever you would like just ask! I cannot imagine anywhere more spectacular for a wedding in fact we all said lets get married again!

Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne also can arrange tours of the local area from horse riding to olive oil tasting. It sounds like no brainier to me!

Relax in style

You were made to feel so comfortable during your stay we felt so at home. I would love to go back in the summer to use the pool that is overlooked by the rolling hillside. The huge table outside would be the perfect wedding setting with fairy lights and stars above your head.

We had a dip in the jacuzzi during our stay with glasses of prosecco in hand. It really is the perfect party house.
