Creating the Perfect Reading Corner with a Mustard and Blue theme.

Everyone knows I enjoy a good book so Creating the Perfect Reading Corner with a Mustard and Blue Theme was my next project. The corner of the living room was a bit empty and dull. We had previously purchased a new chair from Ben Whistler in their end of stock sale and it is the perfect shade of mustard with a fantastic blend of fabrics. I popped one of our inlaid geometric side tables in the corner for my coffee and plonked myself down for a good book.

I have hoards of books and get especially excited when I find one that is not only a good story but a really pretty cover too.

Next step was delving through my book selection which are currently in boxes and found a few favourites to match my colour scheme.

The first one is The Fox and the Star which is a beautiful cloth bound children’s book and was Waterstones book of the year 2015. The next two are two of my favourite books I have read,   Wuthering Heights and Pride and prejudice in stunning cloth bound penguin classics.

Popped on the top is Waterstones exclusive gift edition and the 2016 book of the year The Essex Serpent of which I am yet to read.

However the corner still looked bare and my pretty little art deco style lamp was looking a bit lost in the hall so I sat her in pride of place in the seating area.

I picked her up many years ago in a little antique shop in Abridge, Essex and I fell in love with her straight away. I’m amazed she has survived the renovations!

A few years back we purchased a couple of pictures by an artist called Adam Barsby.

They were two originals in warm terracotta and gold and have adorned the walls ever since.

We recently found Adam Barsby again on his Facebook site and purchased two new ones. He kindly changed the dogs to look like our dogs and the colours really match the living room and have brought it all together.

The orange tones bring the mustard in and  warms up the grey Dulux Grey steel walls, and the blue one matches perfectly.

Plus they have personal touch we could not find anywhere else.

Again tkmaxx came up trumps when I spotted the beautiful little stool in blue and grey perfect for putting my feet up.

It looked lovely when the tree was up with the blue grey and copper baubles, however this years tree didn’t last as long as it should. Pine needles soon littered the floor and could be found everywhere we looked including my hair!

So now the tree has been dismantled and the christmas glitter is finally dusted away, its time for me to put my feet up with a good book. I enjoyed Creating the Perfect Reading Corner Ill let you know what I think of the Essex Serpent in another post.
